Becoming Hypnotized
I tried to becomes a heartbreaker for a while. That didn't work out too well because as soon as I caught a flash of brilliant blue eyes that would soon twinkle at me, even in the dimmest light of a street lamp, I knew I was in deep trouble. You express an awkward twinge of movement every few minutes because you simply cannot sit still for the life of you. Still, you continue to keep your full, undivided attention on me, hanging on every word, soaking it all in, completely contemplating your response before voicing it. The gears in your mind work at an alarmingly quicker pace than mine. I struggle to keep up with the complex mesh of thoughts that tumble out of your mouth. All my practice in charming men with the most minimal exchange possible renders me now powerless against your attractive intelligence. I beam to myself at how you can hardly keep your hand off your car stereo's controls, switching from Passion Pit to Radiohead and back to Passion Pit again. When you offered me the Aux chord, I knew my mainstream Rihanna playlist wouldn't suffice your musical taste. Instead, I played the one band you were most likely to know. Once I began to play Radioactive, you listened to it quietly and intently, your fingers hovering over the volume dials, adjusting them to suit your ears time to time. When the song came to a finale, I was dumbfounded when you nonchalantly proclaimed that it wasn't too horrendous a song and that you'd never heard of Imagine Dragons before. I had to consciously stop my jaw from smacking my lap. I've never met anyone who hasn't heard of the chart-topping band. You simply carried on steering your muffler-lacking Lexus down 1300 toward Sunset Coffee for an iced Stevie Wonder. From that moment forward, you had absolutely and undoubtedly hypnotized me. So I tried to become your girlfriend fo a while. That turned out just fine. Courtney Lilley |
