1. Determine the audience and decide on a formal or informal tone. 2. Use specific, effective language. 3. Vary the sentence structure. 4. Format the letter correctly. 5. Proofread the letter to make sure the mechanics are correct: no run-on sentences, comma splices, sentence fragments, misspellings, or clichés. 6. Include three paragraphs that contain the following information: a. 1st P: Thank the person for the item or service and the occasion on which it was received. b. 2nd P: Describe how you will use the item, information, or service, or state something specific you like about it. c. 3rd P: Conclude with a general statement of friendship, loyalty, kindness, generosity, or acknowledgement of effort. |

Works may include an essay in an edited collection or anthology, or a chapter of a book. The basic form is for this sort of citation is as follows: Lastname, First name. "Title of Essay." Title of Collection. Ed. Editor's Name(s). City of Publication: Publisher, Year. Page range of entry. Medium of Publication. An Edition of a Book
There are two types of editions in book publishing: a book that has been published more than once in different editions and a book that is prepared by someone other than the author (typically an editor).
